Fairview Range Medical Center offers the latest in ultrasound services. The first trimester screening test reliably assesses an expectant mother’s risk for having a baby with Down Syndrome, trisomy 13 and trisomy 18 in the first trimester of pregnancy. This exam is performed between 11 and 14 weeks gestation. It uses data from a blood test combined with an ultrasound measurement of the nuchal translucency or the fluid accumulation behind the fetus’ neck. This is an exam that could be beneficial to all OB patients, not just high-risk patients.
The comprehensive (Level 2) OB ultrasound is an ultrasound performed in conjunction with a Fairview University perinatologist via telemedicine. It is a highly detailed anatomical screening exam performed at 18 weeks gestation or more. The exam is immediately reviewed by the perinatologist, who consults with the patient through a web-cam.
